Keeping Health and Wellness Simple

Keeping Health and Wellness Simple

Do you ever watch  movies or  TV shows, or even social media posts and compare yourself to the people you are watching?  Do you feel less than because you are not where you think you should be in your life?  Do you view people with tight/toned/ripped abs as though they are healthy?  Do you feel like you will never in a million years be the size you were in high school?  Are you un motivated, hate to exercise, think vegetables are evil?

If you answered “YES” to any of the above, then let’s get real for a moment and keep it simple.

Comparing– you probably already know you shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone else as they are not walking in your shoes and traveling your journey.  However, you’re human and I know you probably are comparing in some form or fashion.

  1. Real- the people you are comparing yourself to are either celebrities, elite athletes, fitness gurus. Some have lots of assistance in their daily life to keep them “looking” a certain way (this is part of their job).  Elite athletes, it is their job to maintain a high level of exercise performance and nutrition.  They are living their journey, not yours.
  2. Keep it simple– Focus on YOU and your journey, take the steps needed to start feeling better overall, mentally and physically.  Small steps lead to big steps and all steps together created results.

Feeling less than about where you think you should be

  1. REAL– take a step back and get a bird’s eye view of where you came from and how far you have gotten. Progress is progress no matter how big or small.  Again, every individual is on a different journey, and the paths we choose will determine “big” or “small” results in certain areas of our lives.
  2. Keep it Simple– Set realistic goals. Set daily goals. Try block scheduling to fit “ME” time in everyday for self-care.  Wake up 30 minutes earlier, write in journal, at the end of the year go back and review it.  Read one or more motivational/mindset books a month.  Start a new routine of positive energy in your life and in you’ll start to see a difference sooner than you think.

Viewing people with toned/tight/ripped abs-body = healthy

  1. Real– Um…NO not 100% of the time. Grant it these individuals work their butt off with exercise/nutrition, but it doesn’t always mean they are healthy.  Also, maintaining that physique is not all it’s cracked up to be (trust me, as a former competitive bodybuilder I know) My question to you is, if you had this physique would you be happier with your life, would it change who you are? (at age 44, I am much happier than I was when I was trying to maintain 10% body fat to have six pack abs)  There’s more to health than ripped abs. At the end of the day this physique is not making a dramatic positive impact on your overall life.
  2. Keep it Simple– Set a realistic goal. Instead of “ripped abs” how about strength and endurance. “I’d like to be able to help coach my daughters soccer team” or “I’d like to be able to run, jump, play with my kids without feeling weak or out of breathe.”

Never be the size you were in high school

  1. Real– Let’s get really real here, like slap in the face real. In high school did you have all the responsibilities (aka job(s), bills, and KIDS) as you do now? In HS did you take care of your body inside and out so as to age well and prevent health issues? And in HS you had more elasticity in your skin, flexibility in your muscles/joints,  and here’s a big one….less stress.
  2. Keep it Simple– As we age our bodies change. How they change is up to us.  Can we reverse the effects of aging…absolutely!  HOWEVER, your bones have shifted (if you have given birth you know this), your skin is less elastic, we are older which means we have exposed our bodies to multiple chemicals, free radicals, pollutants, stressors, than those in HS.  Let’s not view it as being a “size” , how about being healthier than you ever were, having more energy than before, more strength, more positive moments, more experiences.

UN motivated, I hate exercise, and vegetables are evil

  1. Real– I feel sorry for you. If this is you may I advise you to change your perspective, get out of your head, and for 90 days try moving your body (other than work) for 30 minutes a day (every day, 7 days a week), and trying a new vegetable each week.
  2. Keep it Simple– re read #1 and repeat.  In order to make a difference you first need to take some action.

Health and wellness lifestyle should not be difficult.  Nutrition should not be torture.  KEEP IT SIMPLE!  Don’t expect 100% pay off when you only put in 20% effort.  You’ve got to stop overthinking it. Move your body, lift weights, change your nutrition.  Stop expecting things to happen in your life when you are not taking action to make those things happen.  At the end of the day, nobody cares if you have six pack abs.  What do you care about?  I care about the positive difference I make in people’s lives.  Did I give them all the proper tools to navigate health and wellness, did I answer all their questions?  I also care that you stay consistent, that you care about yourself enough to make a difference in your health, that you are motivated to make changes in your life that have a positive impact not only to you but to your family.

That all being said, are you ready to take 2020 by the horns and make a positive impact on your health and wellness?  If so, there’s a 10 week KEEP IT SIMPLE program that you won’t want to miss out on.  If you would like to get sneak peek details, message me at mabfit2day@gmail.com type in the subject “KIS”
