A week ago my family and I were in beautiful SoCal, at the end of a long but adventurous vacation to Washington, Oregon, California. We saw and experienced so many things that I am very glad I video logged much of it so as not to forget the details. There are definitely places I will return too and some I will not. Not because any of the places were horrible, but experienced once was enough.
The trip was a stretch for us financially and fitness/nutritionally. Financially meaning- if you have a small business you are quite aware any time off (illness, personal, vacation) is not paid for, you loose money. (yes, I lost $$) Fitness/nutritionally- we knew we would be off our routine 98% of the time, and for two people who thrive on consistency of fitness/nutrition this has an affect on your mental well being (it’s one of the main reasons we exercise and eat healthy) Why then did we decide to do it anyway? Because we have but one life to LIVE, and these opportunities may not come often or ever again. Because we knew the life experiences for our kids would far out reach anything they ever learn in school. Because there is a big beautiful world waiting for you to step outside your comfort zone and experience all it has to offer.
Fitness related; we worked out when we could with limited equipment in the hotels we stayed at. We also walked an average of 6 miles a day. Nutritionally- we made the best choices for each meal, very much more carbs than we are used to and processed foods. Water intake was much less than we normally intake. But we managed, in fact I actually lost weight on this 17 day journey, which sadly was probably muscle.
So now we are back! Finally sleeping normally after the 3 hour time difference and eating our “normal” and getting our workouts in each day. Back to working and trying to recoup what I lost.
Would I do it again? In a heart beat!
The point of this blog today….
- Stretch yourself to experience NEW places, new routines, get comfortable with the uncomfortable.
- Understand that most small business’s count on you to help them grow. Your referral, your small purchase, you’re “liking, sharing, following” of their social media platforms help them reach more people than you realize.
- Be grateful for paid time off at your employment. There are always pros-cons to working for someone else and to owning your own business. (the pro for me is I have flexibility to take a vacation for 17 days, the con is I do not get paid to do it)
- Fitness/Nutrition can be accomplished anywhere in the world with any schedule. It’s a choice you make to make it happen.
- Life is short! Take long strides! And make every moment count!
