One of my 20+ goals for the new year is to start to journal daily. My husband has done this for a few years and I see him typing away each day and at the end of the year he enjoys reviewing them. It’s also a great way to reflect back on your life and everything that is in it and happenings that surround you.
So I started a few days ago. It’s an app (because everything has an app, even MABFIT!) It’s really easy to use, and convenient. At first, I thought “what the hell am I going to journal about”. What I realized is that it actually came really easy. Some entries are longer than others, I can add photos, and links to help me look back on what I thought inspiring or informative. It’s also a good feeling of getting my thoughts of that day’s feelings out.
With journaling it’s my place to go to and write whatever comes to mind about life events that happened that day. Good, bad, sad, angry, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is getting it out, putting in in black and white is like releasing tension, taking a cleansing breath, and sometimes a feeling of freedom.
I do not share personal information with very many people. Journaling I can. My thoughts, my dreams, my goals, my let downs, my frustrations, my weakness. Some of us are blessed to have the ability to share these things comfortably with others, some of us choose to keep it to ourselves. I am the latter, and sometimes that’s not the best thing to do. Journaling helps me to move on from whatever it is that is causing aggravation within myself. To release tension or negative energy.
Next year I will review my journal, and I know most of what I wrote I will smile because I have grown from all those experiences. Laugh at some of the small things that are really important treasured memories. It’s important to me to start writing some of those things down, to learn, to grow, to do more. To remember the best of times and some of the not so good times. These are what make us who we are. They make us stronger, more compassionate, more empathetic, more genuine.
Should you journal? That’s totally up to you. It was just one of my many goals that I thought I would share. Like many of my goals, it is a work in progress. I’ll keep you posted on how it’s going. For now, DO THE WORK!
