Dangers of the Dining Room

Thanksgiving

I can hardly it’s Thanksgiving time again! It is probably my favorite of holidays, because of giving thanks and really reflecting on my blessings. For some this holiday season is difficult for more reasons than one, however many of us stress out of “OMG! FOOD! ALCOHOL! TURKEY COMA! I FORGOT TO WEAR MY STRETCHY PANTS!” When we shouldn’t do that at all.
I’ve come to realize that we are society of worry warts and drama. Our first stop on the drama/ stress/ worry bus is to get off and leave it behind. I know, I know, easier said than done. BUT we make our own reality so if you like drama and you like worrying over family, food, etc., then it will be loaded on your plate like over flowing mash potatoes with gravy.
Once you’re off the drama/stress/worry bus, remain calm, you may be all by yourself. This can be a good thing! BREATHE! Stay focused, know that you are brave enough to enter the dining room, take a plate, and be mindful of your portions.
Holidays are filled with FOOD! ALCOHOL! And more food. Being mindful and knowing in your head that you are the result of your actions can actually benefit you immensely.

My tip for my clients and anyone facing this perplexing time.
• GIVE THANKS & KNOW YOU ARE BLESSED to even have a food and family surrounding you today and every day.
• Take ½ serving sizes of all the carbohydrates you enjoy
• Take ½ servings of all the fats you enjoy
• Take full serving of the protein you enjoy
• DRINK at least 16oz of water before you shovel the food into your mouth
• DRINK at least 16oz of water after you’re done shoveling.
• MOVE your body before and after dinner. (go for a walk, do your workout)
• LEFTOVERS- take the PROTEIN leave everything else for someone else.
• GIVE THANKS & KNOW THAT YOU BLESSED AGAIN, because you successfully made it through a holiday without losing your sh*t.

Ideally when you wake up in the morning, start drinking your water. Eat a healthy protein breakfast, do a 30 minute minimum workout. Go to dinner, follow my above tips and after dinner take a family member with you for a 30 minute brisk walk. (or just go yourself, you may need a breather after being around family)
Not only will you have offset some of the damage that holiday food can cause, but you will feel better overall.
