August Spotlight
Chris Keller
It’s the middle of August and as we are all rushing to get the last ounce of summer fun in before school starts and the every day grind changes; let’s take a moment and congratulate Chris Keller for being this month’s spotlight winner!
I met Chris a couple of years ago, just briefly. I believe it was at a baseball day camp. At that point in time, I did not know Chris at all, just the friendly chatter about baseball, kids, weather, etc. I did know she was struggling with health concerns and really had a goal to become healthier. Fast forward a few years later, and Chris made the jump!
Chris is a busy mom and wife, plus she works at one of our local schools. She’s the uber driver to sporting events, the chef, the maid, the scheduler, the master juggler of all things within the home. Outside the home, her job requires her to have extreme patience, empathy, compassion, and most of all the desire and passion to help so many kids that need a positive role model. Chris, like many of us, is literally superwoman! If you really step back and consider everything this woman does day in and day out, she really needs a cape. In the midst of all this it can be difficult to set time aside for ourselves, but that 30min/60min a day can make a world of difference in your life and those you touch.
This year Chris started working out with weights for 30 minutes, one time a week. The key here was to get Chris acclimated to weight training, to get her mind set in a better place, and to continue the next chapter of her journey. She also started walking more, being more conscious of her nutrition and her water intake, and has started couch to 5k.
When I meet with Chris I always look forward to the smile she wears despite any emotion that may be going on inside. Her want to be better than the day before. And her drive to make an impact on her health, her family, and those she works with.
You know, life can be hard. It was never met to be easy. But I fully believe we are all here for a reason, and one most important reason is to help one another. When we are given road blocks, change the way you think about it, look for the alternative route, there is always an option, you need to choose to see it in a different light…..perspective.
As mom’s, we always put everyone before us. This is just our nature. When in reality and honest to God truth, we NEED OUR TIME TOO! Make sure you are scheduling your time daily!
Chris, I am proud of you and the achievements you’ve already made thus far! Never stop working on your yourself!
