Why all the muscle? Why are my workouts tough? Why shouldn’t I eat bread, pizza, pasta, sugar…..WHY WHY WHY!
Over my 17 years of personal training, 26 years of weight lifting (I started at age 14), multiple bodybuilding competitions, numerous varieties of nutritional methods; the golden standard that has always stood the test of time and broken all the “fad” ideas that creep up, 1. Eating RAW NATURAL UNPROCESSED foods will always reap more benefits than anything else 2. Weight training, with actual weights (typically heavier than your purse) will create numerous results than you can imagine. When 1 & 2 are put together, AMAZING THINGS HAPPEN!
MUSCLE
I LOVE MUSCLES!! They are an intricate detailed network of how our body moves! They are marvelous! The things they allow us to do, and we use them consciously and unconsciously. We have 600-800 MUSCLES in our body! (and yes, I had to learn all of them!) Without them, we would not be able to do anything! A quick overview of why muscles are so beneficial.
- Muscle mass is our engine to calorie burning *having more lean muscle means your engine is burning up more calories at REST!
- More lean muscle makes it easier to maintain your weight
- Increases your strength! Buy age 50 individual can lose up to 10% of their muscle, by age 60-70yrs you may have lost 15%!
- Reduces your risk of injury
- When you are stronger you are more prone to live a more active, healthy lifestyle.
Time to start picking things up and putting them down and REPEAT!
FOOD
I LOVE FOOD!! Who doesn’t! I particularity like to chew my foods rather than drink them. I also advise chewing your foods rather than drinking them because the chewing part is actually one of the first components of your metabolism working to breakdown the nutrients. Lots of signalling from your brain to your mouth, throat, etc on what to do with the food and where it should ultimately go. Crazy things immediately start happening once you place a food item in your mouth. The body immediately starts the process of what is it and what can we do with it. If you think of your body as if it were a car, think about what happens when you put the wrong fuel into your car…it doesn’t run correctly. Things may start to break down. Well, the same happens to our bodies. Not all at once, but if you continually feed your body chemicals, processed, unnatural foods, ultimately things will happen. The first noticeable signal is weight gain. But that one usually isn’t enough to get us to change our habits. Next could be tiredness/fatigue, shortness of breathe. Continue on and more severe signals may occur, swelling, unable to perform daily activities, itchy skin, rashes, irritable bathroom routine(s), illness may occur as well. What does it take to get you to change your habits? CHANGE! The key word CHANGE! If you truly want to be healthier, to be able to do things you used to do, to be able to chase after those grand kids, or your own kids, to even just walk without shortness of breathe or tightness in your chest, you need to CHANGE!
The point is, you can if you really want too. No one but you can make the change. It will always be your choice, and rightfully so; however, if your touching upon some of the items mentioned above remind yourself the WHY and the HOW you got to where you are now. It’s never to late to CHANGE, you just have to be brave enough to start.
DO THE WORK!
