My peev’s…OH WHERE TO START!
I am fortunate to have a home gym, so thankfully I do not have to deal with any of the annoyances of gym etiquette and attitudes.
- CELL PHONES- Leave them in your car, in your locker, I don’t care just don’t bring them into the “weight area”. You are there to workout, sweat; NOT browse social media in between sets tying up the equipment. And yes I am aware that many people use their phones for music, I am also aware they make other little devices that store music only.
- SELFIES- Really, you need to take a selfie at the gym. NO NO NO! No one really wants to see your duck face while you sit and tie up the leg press machine. Take a selfie after your workout is finished. Thus see #1, leave the phone elsewhere.
- WORK IN- I’m all for giant sets, tri sets, drop sets, rest pauses. But seriously, this is a public place, some people have limited time (like over lunch) to get their workout in. Unless you are training for a power lifting competition there is no need for a 2-5 minute rest between sets; and if you are, damn man! Let the other dude work in!
- TOWELS- Carry your own towel and wipe off your stanky sweat when your done! No one wants to lay their head where your sweaty butt may have just been.
- MARATHON LIFTING- Seriously if you are in the gym longer than 1 hour than your jaw must hurt from yapping not lifting. Get in, Do The Work, and get done! This is not social hour. 45-60min is ample enough time to complete a hard core work out!
- HAIR/MAKEUP- Ok I get it, you just came from work so your hair and makeup is still semi nice. However, if you keep looking in the mirror to fix said make up you may want to question why you have a gym membership.
- MIRRORS- The mirrors in a gym are there for you to see your form not check out your uni brow, the chick across the room who’s fixing her makeup, or to do a bodybuilding pose down with yourself.
- RESPECT- Be respectful, there are many new people that are intimidated by a gym just because they think people there actually know what they are doing and will watch them and make fun of them. If you do actually know what you are doing, how about offering assistance and a little encouragement .
- ATTITUDE- Don’t be a d*ck!
- BRO KNOWLEDGE- Just because you learned something new, competed in an event one time, or read a book on paleo nutrition, or paid $100 to make extra income telling people what foods fit in what size container, does not make you an expert! Get experience, learn more (not google searches either) The term “Trainer” “Coach” holds little weight with out the background to back it up.
And that’s my soap box vent!
